Woof?

This blog is a coming to terms of sort. I’ve always been enamored with and fascinated by dogs, wanting to know how their brains work and how we can best live with them. As a child, I wanted to grow up to be a dog trainer.

But I shunted those interests to pursue environmental science, and later science journalism focused on the environment. Now, as a new dog mom, I’m returning to my love of all things canis lupus familiaris.

This newsletter is an attempt to bridge my interest in dogs and science writing. Some posts will be more personal, but expect to see research and reporting too.

About me

I’m a freelance science journalist, and until now my work has mainly focused on climate and environmental topics. I also recently published a story on the dog training industry for Undark, which was republished at several outlets including The Atlantic. You can check out my other stories at my website, ulachrobak.com.

I live in Reno, Nevada with my partner and adolescent border collie-German shepherd dog mix, Halle.
